💡 What if you couldn’t work?

Universal Credit has a mandatory 5-week wait before the first payment (although a loan may be sought against future payments).

Universal Credit
The standard allowance is £424.90/month (single, 25+) or £666.97/month (couple). Additional elements may apply for children, housing costs or disability. Savings above £16,000 disqualify you entirely; above £6,000 reduce your entitlement.
New Style JSA
Approximately £95.55/week (25+) for up to 6 months, provided you have made sufficient National Insurance contributions in the past two full tax years.
Support for Mortgage Interest
A government loan (not a grant) towards the interest on up to £200,000 of your mortgage, usually after 3 months on Universal Credit. It accrues its own interest and is repaid when the property is sold. Homeowners receive no help with mortgage costs for the first 3 months, and none towards the capital.
Your total monthly expenditure £-
Maximum UC (single 25+) £400
Monthly shortfall on UC alone £-

How to read this result

Your result shows roughly what is left each month once the income and spending you entered are taken into account. It is a planning guide rather than financial advice.

Occasional costs are the ones most often missed: insurance renewals, car servicing and repairs, replacing appliances, birthdays and holidays. Spreading those across twelve months usually gives a more honest monthly figure than leaving them out.

Once you know what is genuinely spare each month, the useful question is what that money should be doing, whether that is clearing debt, building savings or funding longer-term plans. Our services page sets out where we can help.
