Figures are based on a capital repayment mortgage and assume the interest rate remains constant throughout the term. Overpayment savings assume a consistent monthly overpayment from the selected start month. As a mortgage is secured against your home, it could be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments. How to read this result
The monthly figure is an estimate based on the loan amount, term and interest rate you entered, assuming that rate applies for the whole term. It is general information to help you plan, not advice or a quotation.
In practice most UK mortgages are fixed for an initial period and then move to the lender’s variable rate, so the payment usually changes when that period ends. The schedule also leaves out arrangement fees, buildings insurance, ground rent and service charges, and it assumes you never overpay or take a payment holiday.
This works out the payment on an amount you choose. If you want to know what a lender might actually lend you, try the mortgage borrowing calculator, or see our mortgage advice in Kent page.
