Financial advice in Swanley
A local adviser, a short drive from Swanley
KMD Financial Planning is based in Hartley, a short drive from Swanley, and works with people across the town and the villages around it: Hextable, Crockenhill and Swanley Village among them.
Swanley sits where the M25 meets the M20 and the A20, right on the edge of London. That shapes the questions people bring. Some commute and have collected pensions from several employers along the way. Some moved out for more space and are now looking at a bigger mortgage. Many work for themselves, which changes how almost every part of a financial plan works.
A first meeting is about understanding what you are trying to achieve. It can be at the office in Hartley, at your home, or by video call, and it costs nothing.
Fees are confirmed in writing before any work begins. You can see how charges work before you get in touch.

Self-employed and company directors
Planning when you work for yourself
Running your own business, as a sole trader or through a limited company, removes most of the safety nets an employer would normally provide. Nobody else pays into your pension, nobody pays you when you are ill, and a lender has to work harder to understand your income. None of that is a problem if it is planned for. It tends to become one when it is not.
Pensions when nobody else is paying in
Personal contributions receive tax relief at your marginal rate. If you trade through a limited company, the company can usually pay into your pension directly, and those contributions can often be treated as a business expense. If you have paid in little for a few years, carry forward may let you use unused allowance from the previous three tax years. Our guide to pension advice in Kent covers how we approach it.
If you could not work
Self-employed people cannot claim Statutory Sick Pay, so a long illness can stop your income almost immediately. Income protection pays a regular income if you cannot work, and the waiting period before it starts can be set to match the savings you could fall back on.
Business money and personal money
For company directors, the balance between salary, dividends and pension contributions affects your tax bill, your mortgage application and your retirement at the same time. We look at all three together, and work alongside your accountant rather than around them.
Mortgage advice
Mortgage adviser and broker in Swanley
As a mortgage broker, we compare lenders across the market for purchases and remortgages in Swanley and the surrounding villages, and look at the mortgage alongside the rest of your plan.
Self-employed and contractor income
Most lenders want two years of accounts or tax calculations, and some will consider one. Lenders also differ in what they count: for a company director, some use salary and dividends while others look at your share of the company profit. Choosing the right lender can change how much you can borrow.
Moving out from London
Swanley is a natural next step for people leaving London for more space. Lenders look at your outgoings as well as your income, so knowing what you can really borrow before you start viewing saves time. Our borrowing calculator gives a first estimate.
Remortgaging
We start around six months before your fixed rate ends and compare a new deal with your current lender against the rest of the market, so you are not moved onto a higher rate by default.
